Ireland 2025
We're off again! This time it's just TJ and Suz putting on the boots and we're headed to Ireland. This is our third visit to Hibernia, and we'll be visiting a favorite location from a previous trip and the northwest corner of the country, a remote area we barely touched last time. We're staying 3 to 4 days in most locations, giving us a chance to enjoy each location before moving on. Here is our itinerary:
Spiddal - A coastal village located outside Galway. TJ will be exploring his ancestry here. We also hope to visit Connemara National Park, which is known for its wild ponies.
Glencolumbkille - A beautiful, rugged area on the western coast. We hope to hike across Slieve League, the highest sea cliffs in Europe. We tried this trek on our last visit to Ireland, but fierce winds made the crossing impossible. There also are several hill walks immediately accessible from the cottage where we are staying.
Cashelnagor - Here, we plan to stay in the Kennedy house, which was designed by architect George Kennedy as his studio. The home is on a lake, and on the western side of Glenveagh National Park. Several great hikes in the area are Errigal Mtn. and Muckish Mtn.
Rathmullan - This is a small town on an inlet on the northern side of County Donegal. This is located near the northeastern end of Glenveagh National Park, and also provides easy access to Malin Head, the northernmost point in Ireland.
Boyle - This seems to be a more touristy area. We'll only stay here for one night, just to break up the drive back to Dublin from Rathmullan.
We hope to do lots of hill walking on this trip, with some pub crawls mixed in. There's no Blarney Stone or castles on the itinerary this time; instead, we'll enjoy some wild, remote locations!
